about
While hindsight will usually reveal to you that you'd made the right choice in leaving someone whom you love very much but who was ultimately not right for you, initially there's always that "you murdered a perfectly good relationship" guilt that riddles your thoughts and compounds your sense of loneliness. You feel evil, you assume the role of the selfish martyr, and your mind combs the wreckage for proof of your despicable being. While I'm feeling much better now, I wrote this song in such a state. In fact, I began writing it the very moment she left my house that day we split up. The conception is raw, I perform it live that way, and I wanted to record it that way.
lyrics
When I was walking through love's corridors
your doors kept changing hinges sin after sin
just to let me in
Because all you ever wanted was
a home without walls
to see it all,
to see your man,
and to understand him
Don't want to be alone
It's the slowest song ever sung
It's impossible to be alone
It's the slowest song ever sung
And I can't seem to take your picture off my dresser
I'm sick of confessing my love to strangers!
(Strangers!)
And when I strewed barbs 'round my deepest fears
to cut your heart if it got too near
I never thought that it would leave me here
I never thought that you would leave me here
And when I hung my lust from power lines
and said, "Put your lips to mine, honey, we'll be fine"
Well that was suicide, suicide!
The temptation's in my heart again
I don't know if I can start again
The temptation's in my heart again
I don't know if I can let you in
The temptation...in my heart...I don't know...
I don't know, but I got to see you
Lord I got to see you!
Don't want to be alone
It's the slowest song ever sung
It's impossible to get along
But it's the slowest song ever sung
Oh baby, I'm so crazy, you're so crazy,
and I don't know if I can take it back...
But I want it all back...
I want it all back...
If you give it, if you give it
I'll take it all back
If you give it, if you give it
I'll take it all back
I'll take it all back
I want it all back...
I want it all back...
